University of Michigan Health System earns Get with the Guidelines — Stroke Gold Plus quality award

The University of Michigan Health System has received the Get With The Guidelines®—Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The award recognizes the University of Michigan’s commitment to and success in implementing exceptional clinical protocols for stroke patients according to evidence-based guidelines.

At the University of Michigan Stroke Program, patients are treated by emergency medicine, neurology, neurosurgery and neurointerventional radiology physicians who are specially trained in stroke care. Vascular surgeons, cardiologists, and physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians complete the clinical care team offering a comprehensive experience for patients.

To receive the award, the University of Michigan achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get with the Guidelines—Stroke Quality Achievement indicators for at least 24 months, and least 75 percent adherence on select quality measures in heart failure and stroke.

It means the U-M consistently follows the most up-to-date treatment guidelines – guidelines known to raise a patients’ survival rates and lower their risk of re-admission. The AHA has recognized the quality of stroke care provided at U-M since 2005.
