An article in the University Record Update today announces that the University of Michigan and Google have finalized an agreement to bring Google collaboration tools to campus.
This will allow the NextGen Michigan Collaboration Project to move forward, including Google Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sites and other collaboration tools. The project will be phased in throughout 2012.
Please note that the U-M Health System and some research groups on campus will not switch to Google email and calendaring due to various laws and regulations pertaining to how restricted data is handled. While UMHS will have access to the rest of the Google collaboration tools, Electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) should not be collected, processed or stored in Google.
The Health System will continue to use Exchange/Outlook for email and calendaring, which provides protections for patient and other sensitive data.
